PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING
Hire & service terms
CampScotland is a trading name of Edvardas Pociulevicius, sole trader. These terms explain how CampScotland equipment hire and camper-detailing bookings work. They do not reduce your statutory consumer rights.

Key booking points
- Equipment is released only after compatibility and safety checks.
- The named hirer remains responsible for the equipment and anyone using or collecting it for them.
- No cancellation charge applies before collection under our current policy. Damage charges reflect reasonable, evidenced loss.
- Important booking details, prices and dates are confirmed in writing. No booking or security deposit is currently collected.
1. About these terms and the hire agreement
These terms apply to equipment hired from CampScotland and to camper-detailing or related services. “We”, “us” and “CampScotland” mean the trader identified above. The “hirer” is the person named in the booking confirmation. “Equipment” includes every roof box, roof bar, fitting kit, bicycle carrier, roof tent, key and accessory listed in the booking or handover record.
The contract consists of the written booking confirmation, these terms and the collection or handover record. If another person collects, transports or uses the equipment for the hirer, the hirer remains responsible for ensuring that person follows these terms.
2. Eligibility and information supplied
The hirer must be at least 18 and provide accurate contact, vehicle and intended-use information. Tell us the correct make, model, year, body style, roof type and any relevant modification. We may request identification, the vehicle registration number, photographs or evidence of suitable insurance. We may withhold equipment where a reasonable identity, compatibility or safety check cannot be completed.
If incorrect or incomplete information means the agreed equipment cannot safely be supplied, we will try to offer a suitable alternative or new date. If that is not reasonably possible, the booking may be cancelled. If the hire is cancelled before collection, no cancellation charge applies under our current policy and any hire payment is refunded.
3. Booking, prices, payment and deposits
An enquiry or quote does not reserve equipment. When you explicitly confirm that you wish to go ahead with the quoted hire, we recheck availability and allocate the equipment immediately if it is still available. We then confirm the equipment, dates, price and arrangements in writing. If availability has changed, we will contact you before agreeing an alternative.
Payment is made in person by cash or bank transfer at fitting or collection and must clear before equipment is released. Payment is not required in advance to reserve a confirmed hire.
We currently collect neither booking deposits nor refundable security deposits, including for roof boxes and roof tents. Any future deposit policy will be explained and agreed before a booking is made; introducing website payments will not change the terms of an existing booking.
The absence of a security deposit does not remove responsibility for reasonable, evidenced loss or damage under section 10.
4. Collection, inspection and handover
The hirer or authorised collector must attend the agreed appointment. Please tell us promptly if delayed. Lateness may require rescheduling where it would disrupt another booking. No cancellation charge applies before collection under our current policy.
At handover, we may record the equipment, keys, fittings and existing condition using a checklist and photographs. The collector should raise any visible concern before leaving. We will demonstrate normal operation and important safety checks. Signing or accepting the handover record confirms receipt; it does not remove any statutory right or prevent a later report of a fault that was not reasonably apparent.
5. Compatibility, fitting and customer-owned equipment
Fitting and removal of hired equipment at our Glasgow base are included unless agreed otherwise. Equipment is supplied only when we are reasonably satisfied that the combination is suitable. Compatibility databases and manufacturer guidance assist the check, but vehicle, roof, bar, carrier and equipment limits must all be observed.
Our bicycle carriers are normally supplied with CampScotland roof bars. We will use customer-owned bars only where we have verified that they are compatible Thule WingBar Evo bars and suitable for the complete setup. A maximum of three carriers may be fitted to one vehicle. Where a roof box and carriers share the bars, the maximum is one roof box and two carriers, subject in every case to available bar space and all applicable vehicle, roof-load, bar and equipment limits.
Do not alter, drill, repair, transfer, remove or refit hired equipment without permission. Follow the handover instructions and recheck fastenings when advised.
If we agree to fit or use customer-owned bars, boxes, carriers or accessories, the customer must disclose their type, condition, instructions and history accurately. We are not responsible for loss caused by a defect, incompatibility or incorrect information relating to customer-owned equipment where that was not reasonably discoverable during the agreed fitting. We remain responsible for work we fail to carry out with reasonable care and skill.
6. Safe loading and use
The driver remains responsible for safe loading, vehicle condition, journey checks and compliance with the law. Keep within the lowest applicable vehicle, roof, bar, box, carrier and tent limit; spread and secure loads; keep keys out of locks while travelling; allow for increased height; and recheck the setup as instructed.
Use equipment only for its intended purpose and in line with instructions. Do not lend, sub-hire, sell, modify or interfere with labels, locks or safety mechanisms. Roof tents must be completely closed and secured before driving. Stop using equipment after a fault, impact, movement or severe-weather concern until we advise that it is safe.
7. Hire period, extensions and return
The confirmed hire period and appointment details are stated in writing. The collection date is not counted as a full hire day: for example, collection on the 1st and return on the 11th is 10 hire days. Return every listed item, including keys and fittings, at the agreed time and place.
Short hires, including one-day hires and same-day returns, are permitted subject to availability. The minimum hire charge nevertheless applies: four hire days for hires starting in June, July, August or December, and three hire days for hires starting in any other month. No reduction or refund is due solely because the equipment is hired, used or held for less than the applicable minimum charged period.
Extensions depend on availability of every hired item and must be confirmed by us. We will tell you the additional cost and obtain your agreement before changing the booking. Extension days are charged at the full daily rate for each hired item, with no discounts on those extra days. The original hire price remains unchanged.
Unagreed late returns are charged at the full daily rate for each calendar day after the agreed return date, without longer-hire discounts. If a late or failed return disrupts another confirmed booking, we may also recover reasonable, evidenced direct loss that we could not avoid. We will not impose an automatic penalty unrelated to the actual circumstances.
8. Customer cancellation, early return and changes
Cancellation before collection: there is currently no cancellation charge. Please notify us as soon as possible, preferably by email or message so that both sides have a record. Any hire payment already received will be refunded in full.
Early return after collection: if you choose to return equipment early, we charge for the days used at the original booking’s rates and discounts, subject to the minimum hire period agreed for that booking. The charge therefore covers the greater of the days used or that minimum period. We refund the amount attributable to unused days above the minimum. We do not reprice the used days at a higher rate or add a separate administration or routine cleaning fee for the early return.
Date, vehicle or equipment changes depend on availability and may require a revised price, which we will agree before making the change. Please arrange an early return time with us. These voluntary cancellation and early-return arrangements do not limit your statutory rights, including where equipment is faulty or we fail to provide the agreed hire.
9. Availability, substitutions and cancellation by CampScotland
If a booked roof box becomes unsafe or unavailable, we may offer an alternative only after checking that it is compatible with the vehicle and provides suitable usable capacity for the hirer’s stated needs. A smaller-capacity box will be supplied only with the hirer’s express agreement and will not automatically be treated as an equivalent substitute. If no suitable alternative is available, or the hirer declines a smaller box, we will refund the affected hire payment. For other booked equipment, any substitute must be compatible and provide substantially the same agreed function.
We may refuse or end a hire for a specific safety, compatibility, identification, suspected fraud, abusive conduct or serious breach reason. Where the hirer is not at fault and we cannot perform because of circumstances beyond our reasonable control, we will refund sums paid for what we cannot provide. We do not reserve an unrestricted right to cancel without reason.
10. Care, faults, damage, loss and theft
Keep the equipment secure and protected from avoidable damage. Tell us immediately about a fault, movement, collision, damage, loss, theft or missing key and follow reasonable instructions. In the event of suspected theft, report it to Police Scotland or the relevant local police promptly, obtain a crime reference number where available and provide it to us.
The hirer is responsible for the reasonable cost of repairing damage caused during the hire, or the reasonable replacement value where repair is not economical, except for fair wear and tear, inherent fault, or loss caused by our breach or negligence. Charges will be supported by inspection, photographs, quotations, receipts or current replacement evidence where appropriate. We will not charge new-for-old value where a fair allowance for age and condition is appropriate.
11. Travel outside the UK
Tell us before booking if equipment will leave the UK. Approval depends on the equipment, destination, duration and recovery risk. The hirer must ensure that the vehicle and journey comply with the laws, insurance requirements and road rules of every country visited. We may reasonably request route, destination and insurance information before the booking is confirmed. No security deposit is currently collected.
12. Detailing, resealing and light repairs
Detailing prices are starting prices. The final scope and price depend on size, condition, access, materials and the agreed work. Remove valuables and disclose fragile surfaces, leaks, damp and previous repairs. We are not responsible for pre-existing defects or ordinary wear revealed by cleaning.
Results depend on age and condition; complete removal of stains, odours, black streaks, oxidation or cosmetic marks cannot be guaranteed. Resealing covers only the agreed accessible area and is not a habitation check, structural survey or guarantee that no other water-ingress source exists. Additional work is not carried out without agreement. Mechanical, gas, electrical, appliance, structural and major replacement work are excluded.
13. Our responsibilities, liability and consumer rights
We will maintain and inspect hired equipment and provide fitting or other services with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or statutory consumer rights.
We are not responsible for loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was made or for loss caused by incorrect use, unauthorised alteration, undisclosed vehicle information or customer-owned equipment where we were not at fault. Equipment is supplied for personal use unless agreed otherwise, so we do not accept liability for business interruption or loss of business profit.
14. Complaints and contact
Contact us promptly so we can investigate and try to resolve a problem. Email bookings@campscotland.co.uk, call 07731 994028, or write to CampScotland, 7 Edinburgh Drive, Glasgow, G40 4RW.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by Scots law. Any mandatory consumer right to bring proceedings elsewhere is unaffected. If one part of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining parts continue to apply.
